Our Methodology
Every number, label, and comparison on this site is backed by a defined process. This page explains exactly how we collect data, what “verified” means, and what happens when something is wrong.
How We Collect Data
We build our directory from structured data extracted directly from wine club websites. Rather than writing subjective reviews, we focus on the factual, comparable data points that matter most when choosing a wine subscription:
- Pricing — Plan prices, bottle counts, shipment frequency, intro vs. ongoing price, and computed true cost per bottle (including shipping)
- Shipping — Which states each club ships to, shipping costs, free shipping thresholds, temperature-controlled packaging, and adult signature requirements
- Cancellation and flexibility — Whether you can skip or pause shipments, cancel online, the cancellation method (phone, email, web), and any minimum commitment
- Wine selection — Wine types offered (red, white, mixed, sparkling), sourcing model (named producers, private label, retailer curated), and customization options
- Features — Tasting notes, food pairings, gift options, member discounts, community access, and educational content
Each club in our directory is represented as a structured data record with dozens of fields. This is not editorial opinion — it is normalized, comparable information sourced from club websites, terms of service, FAQ pages, and shipping policy pages.
What “Verified” Means
When we say a data point is verified, we mean a specific thing: a human or automated process has confirmed that information against the club’s own published materials within a defined time window. Verification is not a permanent status — it expires and must be renewed.
Our verification process works like this:
- Initial extraction. We collect data from the club’s website, including pricing pages, FAQ, terms of service, and shipping information pages.
- Structured recording. Extracted data is entered into our database with source URLs and a timestamp recording when it was last confirmed.
- Cross-referencing. Where possible, we check data against multiple sources on the same club’s site (for example, comparing the pricing shown on the landing page with the pricing in the terms of service).
- Confidence tagging. Each club record carries a confidence level that reflects how recently and thoroughly its data has been reviewed. Clubs with sparse or stale data are flagged internally for re-verification.
Verification does not mean endorsement. A club can have fully verified data and still have policies that are unfavorable to consumers. We present the facts; you decide what matters to you.
How Rankings Work
Editorial rankings are never for sale. No wine club can pay to rank higher in our directory, search results, comparison tools, or editorial content. This is a bright-line rule with no exceptions.
When you search or filter clubs on our site, results are ordered by the structured data fields you select — price, shipping coverage, flexibility, wine type — not by who pays us the most. Our AI-powered vibe search and recommendation tools use the same underlying dataset and follow the same rule.
Some clubs in our directory have affiliate relationships with us, meaning we earn a commission when you subscribe through our links. Many clubs do not. Both groups are presented on identical terms. Affiliate status has zero influence on ordering, filtering, recommendations, or editorial placement.
For a detailed explanation of how we make money and why it does not affect rankings, see our Editorial Policy.
Data Freshness
Wine clubs change their pricing, shipping policies, and plan structures frequently. We re-verify data on a rolling basis, with priority given to the clubs and fields that matter most to consumer decisions.
Our re-verification is triggered by:
- Scheduled reviews. High-traffic clubs are re-checked more frequently. All active clubs are reviewed at least quarterly.
- User reports. When a reader tells us something has changed, we investigate and update the record promptly.
- Seasonal changes. Many clubs adjust pricing or offerings around the holidays and key promotional periods. We increase our review cadence during these windows.
- Club-initiated updates. Wine clubs can contact us directly to report changes to their data. We verify the update against their published materials before making changes.
Because we cannot guarantee real-time accuracy for every data point across 300+ clubs, we always recommend verifying current details directly with the club before subscribing.
Data Completeness
Not every club has disclosed every detail, and not every field has been verified yet. Rather than hiding gaps, we show them.
Every club detail page includes a data completeness indicator that tracks 10 key fields:
- Pricing
- Shipping cost
- Flexibility (skip/pause)
- Cancellation info
- Shipping coverage (states)
- Wine types
- Sourcing model
- Gift options
- Plan details
- Description depth
A club showing 7/10 means three of these fields are missing or unconfirmed. This is not a quality score — it is a transparency tool. A club with 10/10 completeness may still have policies you dislike; a club with 6/10 may be excellent but has not disclosed certain details publicly.
We prioritize filling data gaps for high-traffic clubs and for the fields that our research shows matter most to consumers: pricing, cancellation terms, and shipping coverage.
Corrections Policy
We take accuracy seriously. If you find incorrect, outdated, or misleading information on our site, we want to know about it.
For consumers: If you see a price, shipping policy, cancellation process, or any other data point that does not match the club’s current offering, email us at hello@cuvee.club with the club name and what you believe is incorrect. We will investigate and update our records within 48 hours.
For wine clubs: If you operate a wine club listed in our directory and your data is outdated or incomplete, reach out to hello@cuvee.club. We will verify your updates against your published materials and update the listing. Note that corrections to factual data (pricing, policies, shipping) are always free — we do not charge clubs to have accurate information in our directory.
When we make a correction to a material data point (pricing, cancellation policy, shipping coverage), we update the last-verified timestamp on the club’s record. We do not currently maintain a public changelog per club, but this is on our roadmap.
